"Home on the Go" for Santander Bank and IBM iX

Design Challenge:

Provided by Santander Bank, alongside IBM iX, “How might we improve the journey of finding or getting a new home?”

It was important for the clients that we did not stick to the usual solutions of mortgage and traditional banking, but rather pushed the boundaries of the industry.

Process

1. Research: Understanding current state.

Defining the scope and understanding the current state of the user in the problem context.

2. Analysis: Synthesizing user research

Connecting the dots on not only what users are experiencing, but who they are, and why they are experiencing this.

3. Ideation: Brainstorming & evaluating potential solutions.

Several ideas were brainstormed, prototyped, and evaluated based on impact, feasibility, and effort. Once final solutions were selected, they went through user testing and iterations as needed.

4. Solution: Home on the Go.

Home on the Go: Transforming the process of purchasing a home from an annoying and tedious experience into an enjoyable and exciting journey. It provides full visibility of the process to its users and compiles conversations, guides, and documents all in a one-stop shop.

Takeaway:

When approaching a design problem, it is vital to include both convergent and divergent steps. By zooming in and out, we are able to identify small details and patterns that are key insights, while still understanding the relationships of direct and indirect stakeholders at a macro level.
